My First Plot

My first ever plot with the UUNA TEK 1824 ArtStation is complete, framed, and now sitting proudly on a shelf.

It is far from perfect, but that is part of what makes it special. I learned a huge amount from making it, and no matter what I create from here, this one will always be the first.

The design itself is fairly simple: layered Truchet tiles, plotted with a few different pens I had bought to experiment with., but there were plenty of lessons along the way. One layer used a brush pen set too low, which gave me much heavier lines than intended and a pen tip that looked rather worse for wear by the end. The file itself was also not especially plotter-friendly. Instead of flowing through long, elegant continuous paths, the ArtStation had to work its way through countless short segments, turning what should have been a smooth drawing process into something much more fussy and mechanical.

But that is the value of these early “failures”. They show you exactly what needs to change next time.

I now know more about pen height, line weight, tool choice, path optimisation, and the small practical details that only become obvious once ink is actually hitting paper. Or perhaps at least I’ve learned how much I have to learn! Every flaw in this piece is a note for the next one.

So no, it is not the most refined thing I will ever make. Hopefully it is not even close.

It may be imperfect, but it is finished, framed, and mine — and everything I learned from it will feed into the next one.
